| 01.01.1965 | Quite officially the "EUREGIO": Between Rhine, Ems, Ijssel and Vechte the municipal authorities cooperate cross-border from an economic, social and cultural point of view. The EUREGIO is no official instance, but a "border platform” for the local authorities in both countries. The EUREGIO council, which was introduced in 1978, is its political organ. Particularly NRW is closely linked with the European states: More than 50% of the exports go to EU countries at the beginning of the nineties, more than 60% of the imports come from these. |

| 13.03.1967 | For the first time the federal government intervened for order’s sake in the coal crisis with the Ministry for Economic Affairs Karl Schiller. On 13 March 1967 the concerted action of the government, unions and companies begins. For one year the parties involved could not agree upon a joint line to manage the crisis then the government put the pressure on: In 1968 a new coal law came into force. The deletion of all state subsidies is planned if companies and unions should not reach an agreement. The foundation of Ruhrkohle AG, a joint venture finally offers a way out |
